Welcome to my Channel Glimpse of India.
Ancient Nalanda University (नालंदा विश्वविद्यालय) also known as Nalanda University Ka Khandar was a great center of Buddhist learning in ancient times, located about 95 kilometers southeast of Patna near the city of Bihar Sharif. Nalanda was the largest residential center of learning in the world with a nine-storeyed library. It was a completely residential university with over 2,000 teachers and 10,000 students. It was the Buddhist centre of learning from 427 to 1197 CE partly under the Pala Empire. All the structures are of red brick with beautiful gardens. The great library of Nalanda University was so vast that it is reported to have burned for three months after the invaders set fire to it, ransacked and destroyed the monasteries, and drove the monks from the site.
