If you want to go to Goraksanath temple by bus from Howrah to L237 or Teghariya Mini, from Sealdah D. N. 17 or 45, from Esplanade bus 47, from Ultodanga to V. I. P. Get on any bus going to the airport by road and Get off Tegharia stop. From there walk west or reach the temple of Gorakhnath by rickshaw. History of Gorakhnath Temple: It is said that Gorakhnath and Kapilmuni performed sadhana at this place. At the request of Gorakhnath, Kapil Muni went to the Ganges. This temple is located at Arjunpur. The name Arjunpur also carries a lot of history. Many people say that Arjunpur was Khandab before, the place is named Arjunpur after the burning of Arjun Khandab forest in the Mahabharata. Again many say this place was part of the Sundarbans and there were many Arjuna trees, the Vidyadhari river flowing by.Pedestrians used to rest under the Arjuna tree. There were many Arjuna trees so the name of this place became Arjunpur. What are the sights of Gorakhnath temple? The Goraksanath temple has a statue of Guru Gorakhnath and a statue of Kapilmuni. There are idols of Radha Krishna, Narayan Shila, Gopichand ji, Ram Lakshan Mainavati ji and many more. There is original smoke in the temple precincts where the smoke has been rising for more than a thousand years. Apart from Goraksanath Temple, there are Shiva Temple, Kali Temple, Ramdev Jir Temple, Hanumanji Temple, Bhairabnath's Vigraha. There is a tomb in this place where there are tombs of saints and fishes. There is a big pond in the temple premises where there are many big fish. When the fish in the pond dies, it is buried in the tomb of the temple. What are the festivals in this temple? Yajna is performed at the tomb of the temple on Gangasagar, Maghi Purnima, Guru Purnima and Navratri. There is also a festival at this place on Shivaratri. গোরক্ষনাথ মন্দির কী ভাবে যাবেন ? গোরক্ষনাথ মন্দিরে যেতে হলে হাওড়া থেকে এল ২৩৮ বা তেঘরিয়া মিনি, শিয়ালদহ থেকে ডি. এন. ১৭ বা ৪৫ নং বাসে, এসপ্লানেড থেকে ৪৬ নং বাসে, উল্টোডাঙ্গা থেকে ভি. আই. পি. রোড দিয়ে এয়ারপোর্ট গামী যে কোন বাসে উঠুন। নামুন তেঘরিয়া স্টপেজে। সেখান থেকে পশ্চিম দিকে হেঁটে বা রিকশায় পৌঁছে যান গোরক্ষনাথের মন্দির। গোরক্ষনাথ মন্দিরের ইতিহাস: শোনা যায় এই স্থানে গোরক্ষনাথ এবং কপিলমুনি সাধনা করেছিলেন। গোরক্ষনাথের অনুরোধে কপিলমুনি চলে যান গঙ্গাসাগরে। এই মন্দিরটি অর্জুনপুরে এ অবস্থিত। সেই অর্জুনপুর নামটিও অনেক ইতিহাস বহন করে চলেছে। অনেকে বলেন অর্জুনপুর আগে ছিল খান্ডব, মহাভারতে বর্ণিত অর্জুন খান্ডব বন দহনের পর এই স্থানের নাম হয় অর্জুনপুর। আবার অনেকে বলেন এই স্থানটি ছিল সুন্দরবনের অংশ এবং অনেক অর্জুন গাছ ছিল, পাশ দিয়ে বয়ে যেত বিদ্যাধরী নদী। পথচারীরা অর্জুন গাছের নিচে বসে বিশ্রাম করতেন। প্রচুর অর্জুন গাছ ছিল তাই মানুষের মুখে মুখে এই স্থানের নাম হয়ে গেল অর্জুনপুর। গোরক্ষনাথ মন্দির এর দর্শনীয় স্থান কি কি? গোরক্ষনাথ মন্দির এর মধ্যে গুরু গোরক্ষনাথের মূর্তি এবং কপিলমুনির মূর্তি রয়েছে। রয়েছে রাধা কৃষ্ণ, নারায়ন শিলা, গোপিচান্দ জী, রাম লক্ষণ ময়নাবতি জী এছাড়া আরও অনেকের মূর্তি। মন্দির চত্বরে রয়েছে আদি ধুনা যেখানে হাজার বছরেরও বেশি সময় ধরে ধোঁয়া উঠেই চলেছে।
