The story is about a monkey living on a tree on the banks of a river and a crocodile couple living in the water. Husband crocodile and the monkey become friends and eat berries together. Wife crocodile is jealous that his husbands is spending lot of time with his new friend and asks for monkey's heart. Husband crocodile could not defend his friend and brings monkey with some tricks. But while on the way crocodile reveals why the monkey is being taken. Clever monkey says his heart is on the tree and he escapes from the crocodile.

एक बंदर और एक मगरमच्छ आपस में दोस्त थे। मगरमच्छ की माँ को बंदर का हृदय बहुत स्वादिष्ट लगता था। उसने मगरमच्छ से कहा कि वह उसके लिए बंदर का हृदय लाए।

मगरमच्छ ने बंदर से कहा, “उस टापू के फल पक गए हैं। मैं तुम्हें वहाँ ले चलता हूँ।” बंदर के मुँह में पानी आने लगा।

वह उछलकर मगरमच्छ की पीठ पर बैठ गया। दोनों टापू की ओर चल पड़े। रास्ते में मगरमच्छ ने बताया, “मेरी माँ तुम्हारा हृदय खाना चाहती है और मैं तुम्हें उसके पास ही लिए जा रहा हूँ।”

बंदर चुपचाप सोचने लगा। कुछ देर बाद वह बोला, “अरे, लेकिन मैं तो अपना हृदय पेड़ पर ही छोड़ आया हूँ।

तुम्हें मेरा हृदय चाहिए तो मुझे वापस वहीं ले चलो।” चतुर बंदर ने बात बनाई।

मूर्ख मगरमच्छ बंदर को वापस नदी के तट पर ले आया। जैसे ही वे तट के पास पहुंचे, बंदर उछलकर पेड़ पर चढ़ गया और उसकी जान बच गई।
